Voyage by Aether & Hemera

Media architect Claudio Benghi and light artist Gloria Ronchi joined together in 2006 to form Aether & Hemera, an interdisciplinary collaboration that seeks “to research the aesthetic challenges of light and its power to trigger emotions and response, creating a sense of identity or setting a mood.” Their latest installation in London’s Canary Wharf is this beautiful fleet of 300 illuminated boats called Voyage. Each floating light is reminiscent of a paper-folded origami boat that is illuminated from within, and I’m told there is a wireless network in the vicinity that allows you to join with your mobile device and somehow alter the colour of the entire installation.

BY-PASS_NY by Chris Eayres

Chris Eayres’ BY-PASS_NY is ‘a series of ten long exposure photographs capturing the neon and fluorescent heart beat of night time Manhattan. Taken from the top deck perspective of a New York tour bus as it crosses the metropolis. This tourists diving bell provides the mechanism to take the pulse of a city. These images were captured while passing over the metropolises cross sections where it’s tarmac veins and arteries meet.’

Light and geometry interventions by Javier Riera 

Spanish artist Javier Riera produces what he calls “light and geometry interventions” on landscapes.  Using powerful light Riera projects geometric patterns on to natural vistas.  The projections can appear to transform a treeline into a two dimensional plane.  At other times the light seems to add strict geometric shapes to the wilderness.  The light and patterns disrupt the perception of the view they cover.  Riera’s transposing geometric patterns onto natural scenery partly alludes to language, matter, and the way the two interact.
